Raising a Sensitive Child in an Insensitive World

Raising a Sensitive Child in an Insensitive World

Sensitivity… It’s a word mostly used as a criticism. So sensitive children: are they a problem or a blessing? Do these children need hardening to live successfully in this hardened world? The world seems to believe they do. Will being sensitive hinder them in relationships and in life, or do these people make up a really necessary and needed part of the body of Christ? God speaks about sensitivity. What does He say? Raising a sensitive child can feel like a challenge, especially if you are not also highly sensitive. Their minds seem to never stop, and their hearts always feel deeply. Incredibly deeply. They are affected by the emotions of those around them, to an extent that can go beyond sympathizing. They become easily over stimulated and are probably not your social butterflies. But there is nothing wrong with them because their personalities are different, and our goal shouldn’t be to try to change them. Being different is not a negative, it’s necessary. We will discuss how to best help these young people to grow into strong Christian men and women, ready to serve the body of Christ. These children have a unique set of gifts, we just need to recognize what those are and encourage them to grow.
